"They better grow."

Just ordered 21 fruit trees, some pears, cherries, apples and plums.  They'll begin bearing fruit 2-3 years after planting.  When I told Kristie how much we spent on them she said: "They better grow."  I agree.  GOTTA SPEND MONEY TO MAKE delicious pies MONEY!

The Bee's Knees

It's official.  We've ordered two packages of bees and will be setting up two Top Bar beehives this spring.  It was something I'd considered doing last year but didn't wanna overload myself with too many tasks.  The Top Bar method is a little more hands off than the traditional langstroth hives (the traditional stacked box ones) and is a more natural habitat for the bees.  This fits with our purpose for them as while the honey will be nice their primary purpose will be pollination and wax production.  I'll post pics and a more detailed post once I get this kitchen renovation done and get started on the hives.

Food Storage Made Easy

Just found this blog about food storage that I thought I'd share.  No matter where you live, there exists the chance of getting snowed in or stuck in your house either due to natural disaster or bringing a newborn home.  Point being, with food stored at home, it's better to have and not need, than need and not have.  Much of the time, blogs dedicated to "Prepping" are written by guys and in a style that the female homemakers out there might not find inviting.  "Food Storage Made Easy" is the answer to that.  It's written by two young mothers and is in pink so it's totally chick-ta-fied.  Swing on by and check them out.

The Newest Little Farm Hand

Brett and I are pleased to announced we've added a new little farm hand to the Serenity Valley Farm family. 

Kaylee Julia Lawler was born February 4 at 2:50 a.m. weighing in at 7lb, 2oz and 20 in. long.

She's looking forward to seeing everyone this summer at the farm stand!
